Hi, I’m Anti-Diet Dietitian, Mya.

This is my story and “why” for doing this work.

Nutrition, health and self-care used to be things that never crossed my mind.  I graduated college with a degree in media/communications and spent 7 years in that industry as a chronically tired and overworked workaholic until finally getting to the breaking point that I could no longer neglect my own self-care.  That was what first sparked my interest in nutrition.

HOWEVER, once I actually went back to school to become a Registered Dietitian, I had an opportunity to go through a fellowship with a specialization in eating disorders and this changed my whole outlook on health and nutrition.

I came to realize our relationship with food and body has a tremendous impact on our health, too, because “health” is not only about the physical body, but also our emotional, mental, social well-being, too.  And all too often, the pursuit of so-called health through the forms of diets and weight-loss interventions come at the expense of damaging our relationship with food and body, and even causing physical harm.

This was also a time I began to question the conventional medical model’s weight-focused approaches, because I was seeing patients in larger bodies with restrictive eating disorders yet were continuing to receive messages to “lose weight” from their doctors who had no idea they had eating disorders because they didn’t “look” like it.

Soon enough, I learned that this was called “weight bias” and started to educate myself with trainings and digging through the research and learned about the tremendous harms of such weight-focused interventions that operate from a weight-biased lens.

All of this completely changed my mission as a Registered Dietitian.

I became passionate about practicing from weight-inclusive, anti-diet approaches such as Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size in order to become a better ally for all of my clients who were struggling with their relationship with food + body regardless of their weight and size.

Unlike diets and weight-loss programs that operate from a place of rigidity and control (and therefore never sustainable), these approaches give you back your autonomy and help you build trust and connect with your bodies needs.
